FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We are here to walk you through the therapy process and answer any questions you may have. Below are some frequently asked questions, but please don’t hesitate to ask us for further details on specific questions you may have regarding your child.
How do we get started?
Getting started is easy — fill out our quick pre-evaluation form and we'll reach out within two business day to learn about your child and schedule a comprehensive evaluation.
What does an evaluation look like?
Your child's evaluator will have previewed the intake and will come prepared with a battery of assessments to better understand your child's strengths and areas of need. We'll meet you in our waiting room with a smile — or, when appropriate, travel to your child's school to complete the evaluation. Our batteries include standardized assessments, parent reports, teacher observations, and clinical observations. The length depends on your child's age: for children birth to three, evaluations typically take about an hour and are full of strategic play — our goal is to help little ones feel comfortable through a play-based assessment. As children enter the preschool years, the evaluation becomes a mix of play and standardized assessments. For elementary and older students, evaluations can last up to two hours, and dyslexia evaluations typically take three to four hours.
What will we receive after the evaluation?
After the evaluation, you can expect to receive the evaluation report within three weeks via email — and we're always happy to review it with you. The report includes your child's performance on the assessments, our impressions, recommendations, and parent resources. Depending on the recommendations, we'll guide you to the next steps.
How do I know if my child needs therapy, or if they'll grow out of it?
That's a great question — and one we hear often. We encourage parents to trust their instincts and gather information to make the best decision for their child. Because a child's brain develops so rapidly in the early years, identifying and addressing concerns sooner rather than later can make a meaningful difference. Early intervention often leads to faster progress, builds confidence, and can help prevent small challenges from becoming bigger ones. If you're unsure whether your child would benefit from therapy, an evaluation is a great next step!
Do we need a referral from our doctor?
Most families can reach out to us directly to begin. Some insurance plans require a physician referral for coverage — we'll help you figure out exactly what your plan needs.
If my child has already had an evaluation, will they need another one from your clinic?
More than likely, no. If your child has had an evaluation within the last 12 months and therapy was recommended, we can typically use that evaluation to start the process.
What services do you offer?
We offer pediatric speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, and literacy and reading support, each tailored to your individual child.
What's the difference between speech therapy and occupational therapy?
Great question! They work hand in hand but focus on different things. Speech-language therapy supports communication: speech sounds, understanding and using language, fluency, and social communication. Occupational therapy builds the everyday skills children need to thrive: fine motor and handwriting, sensory processing, and self-regulation. Some children benefit from one, some from both, and if you're not sure which fits, an evaluation will help point the way.
Do you help with reading, literacy, or dyslexia?
Yes. Reading and language are deeply connected, and our speech-language pathologists are qualified to assess and support language-based literacy difficulties, including dyslexia, it's one of our areas of specialization.

What ages do you work with?
We work with children and adolescents, from early childhood through the school years. Early support matters, so it's never too early to reach out.
How long will my child need therapy?
It depends on your child, their goals, their needs, and the progress they make. After the evaluation we'll talk through what to expect, and we review progress together along the way, so therapy lasts exactly as long as it's helpful and no longer.
How often will sessions be?
Session frequency and length are guided by your child's evaluation and individualized plan, and we'll walk through the recommendation with you.
How can I support my child's progress at home?
Parents are a huge part of progress! Your therapist will share simple, practical strategies you can use at home, because the best results happen when therapy and everyday life work together. (We're also building a library of home-practice resources — stay tuned.)

Can we pay out of pocket?
Yes — we accept private pay and offer secure online payments for added convenience.
How much does therapy cost?
Cost depends on the services your child needs and your insurance coverage.
What is your cancellation and late-arrival policy?
Because each therapy time is reserved just for your child, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we may need to use that time for another child and reschedule your session.
Are you accepting new clients?
We'd love to hear from you. Fill out the pre-evaluation form and we'll talk through current availability and the best next step for your family from there.
